Archives For gary dell’abate

Hey Viper fans, we hope you didn’t miss out on the Viper SmartStart shout-out from “They Call Me Baba Booey” with Gary Dell’Abate (via his web show on the Nerdist).

This was one of the best product demos for the Viper SmartStart that we’ve seen in awhile.

For those of you who DID miss out on Baba Booey’s review, here’s a little synopsis to help get you caught up.

Dell’Abate first emphasizes how cold New York can get in the winter and how he leaves for work at the Howard Stern show in Manhattan at 4:30 am. He says the numbers are often in the single digits when he leaves his house during the winter months.

Baba Booey asks his viewers to “imagine” what it would be like to start their car from their house on “a brutally cold day” and have it all heated up and defrosted by the time they got in the car.

Even better, Gary says that drivers can start their car from their smartphone — Viper already makes a mobile app that does just that and they’ve “improved it dramatically.”

Baba Booey does a great job running down the app’s features.

A snapshot:

SmartSchedule: “Enter in your schedule and have your car ping you at certain temperatures to tell you to warm it up.”

Auxiliary Channel Buttons: “Lets users interact remotely with any part of their car: Roll down your windows, blast the radio — anything you can imagine!”

Teen-Tracking Features of the SmartStart GPS: “My son is a teenage driver. I have an alert set that will text me every time he goes over 70 mph. If I wanted to, I could set a zone called a SmartFence so that I’m alerted every time he [my son] leaves the zone.”

“You can also set an alert that lets the user know if the vehicle has reached a certain destination. Why? In the words of the creator who demonstrated this at CES, ‘So you can get an alert if your daughter goes to see her dirtbag boyfriend you told her not to go see anymore.” [Make sure to check out that full speech from CES 2012.]

Getting a little Orwellian, aren’t we? Oh well, the age of spying on your kids and making them miserable is here!

Dell’Abate names more of his favorite features (just a snapshot, watch the full video for all of them):

SmartPark: “Notes a vehicle’s location every time you press the door lock button.”

Viper Motor Club: “Locked out? Dead battery? Need a tow? It’s a lot like AAA, but Viper Motor Club is included with all SmartStart Secure plans.”

He ends by saying: “I love when a company takes something I’ve used for years and vastly improves it, and Viper has done just that.”

Thanks Baba Booey for your shout-out and kind words, we’re proud to have you plugged in and living the Viper SmartStart lifestyle!

(Keep warm this winter, it’s supposed to be a doozy!)

Howard Stern, Robin Quivers and the rest of the cast treated the audience to a classic Baba Booey roasting on Wednesday after editing together some audio of the Stern Show producer’s new web series “They Call Me Baba Booey” featured on the Nerdist Channel.

Howard likened Gary Dell’Abate’s on-air delivery to someone reading from a math textbook aloud. Shuli Egar said the show name should be changed to “They Call Me Horrible.”

For any of you who missed it, the Viper SmartStart got a great shout out from Baba Booey in a segment where he ran down all of the app’s features and said that Viper “took a product he has used for year, but vastly improved it.”

Although it was a great review from Baba Booey, Stern and company teased him about the web show on Monday — and then completely roasted him about his appearance on Wednesday.

“When Gary talks he’s kind of interesting, when he reads, he’s HORRIBLE!!!!!” Stern joked. “When he’s reading off of the teleprompter, I guess he’s trying to look like he’s NOT reading off of the telepromter — so he lifts his chin and points it up to the sky so you’re looking up his nose and at his neck — and it’s like, ‘Gary, look into the f—– monitor, look into the TV camera.'”

Baba Booey was quick to defend himself, saying “I tried to do it the other way, and it was a little ‘um, um, um …'”

“Did you get to the second part?” Gary asked Stern (the second part is where Baby Booey pitches the Viper SmartStart.)

Stern said that they should now call Gary “Baba Boring.” “I was like, ooooh … oh my god!” he said.

The crew played clips from several different segments from the Nerdist and went around the room teasing him for being stiff and mimicking his delivery.

“The other day, uh, first of all, I would like to give a review about Sonos,” Stern said. “It’s like I’m at school, and he’s reading to me.”

“You’re talking to people!” Robin joked.

At times, Gary started getting a little heated and pushing back at his colleagues: “guys, don’t pretend that you don’t know what this stuff is when you do!”

“Do they pay you for this?” Stern asked him.

“They do, they actually pay me really well,” Baba Booey said. “It’s a great company.”

“Sonos also has, excuse me, turn the page,” Stern joked, “a very good interface …”

“The show is horrible, but it can only get better after I helped Gary today,” he added, laughing.

“You know what Howard, you’re too good to me,” Gary laughed.

Wow, Howard Stern loves to bust on that Baba Booey.

In case some of you haven’t heard, the Viper SmartStart got a great shout out from Howard Stern show producer Gary “Baba Booey” Dell’Abate on his web show “They Call Me Baba Booey” on The Nerdist. It was a glowing review: Baba Booey said that Viper “took a product he has used for years, but vastly improved it” — and also did a thorough rundown of the Viper SmartStart features.

Although it was a great review from Baba Booey, it was also a great laugh after hearing Howard Stern on Monday tease Baba Booey for his web show and how all it was is Baba Booey “talking about stuff he likes.”

Howard and his radio co-host Robin Quivers went on and on mimicking Baba Booey, saying things like “I like things I can turn on and turn off … from a distance” or “Yeah, I like to start my car from my phone” in the same way Baba Booey sounds when he talks with his teeth.

It’s a crack up and a MUST hear. If you haven’t seen our shout out on The Nerdist check out the video below.
