The Mercedes-Benz G-Class or G-Wagen

Now, I’ve heard of couples deciding to postpone their vacations — sometimes even by months or years.
But if you extend your trip by 23 years, you’ve got a REALLY serious case of the wanderlust.
According to this story from the BBC, German traveler Gunther Holtorf and his wife took off waaaay back in 1989 in their Mercedes Benz G Wagen for what was supposed to be an 18-month African tour.
It ending up taking them … a little longer than that.
Fast forward to now, with more than 500,000 miles under his belt — good ol’ Gunther is still cooking.
Having now dubbed his epic-traveling Mercedes “Otto,” the ex-airline executive has traveled the same distance that it would take you to circle the globe 20 times — and says that good ol’ Otto never suffered a serious breakdown!
(Sheesh, just imagine if Holtorf had let us slap a Viper SmartStartGPS on Otto just before embarking on his never-ending jaunt?)
